  1. Use acronyms for frequently used expressions (FUE) .
  2. Don’t try to squeeze in all that you know. It can be distracting.
  3. Be careful with leaving empty lines before and after latex sectioning commands.
  4. Use figures that are as small as possible .
  5. Describe the figures in their caption, not in the main text. This will save space as the font used for captions is smaller than the main text font. The exceptions are papers containing details of new experiments or simulations, and the like.
  6. Use large paragraphs whenever possible.
  7. Avoid sectioning!
  8. Collect similar references as one. Some journals allow this but it can be unfair. Works best for “established” references.
  9. Use footnotes. They have smaller fonts.
  10. Contrary to the common belief, long sentences do not save space. These sentences can be quite confusing. In fact they are usually shorter only by a few words at most (165 chars):
