It is now time to announce it here: My advisor Daniel, has decided to move from University of Toronto to University of Southern California (Electrical Engineering/Chemistry/Physics?) in Los Angeles. He has offered to take most of us with him and I have chosen to move. Why would I choose Smog City over Frozen City? It is mostly because I will be able to see more and talk to more if I am a student in the States. Going to conferences in the States has been a real source of headache for me and at times impossible since I couldn’t have applied for the visa in time and opportunities were lost. Obviously getting the student visa for the first time could be a problem for me.
Well, that gives me about 3 months to enjoy my presence in Toronto should I get the US student visa in time. This will include enjoying the cheap and lovely restaurants, the great Canadian outdoors, and occasional disappearances.
